Actual Record of Joseph Tremau serving aboard "La Blanche"

"Les Combattants Francais de la Guerre Americaine 1778-1783", published in Paris, 1903.  The lists in this book were compiled from authentic records found in the French National Archives and the French Archives of the Ministry of War.  I found this book in its entirety on a French Website in December, 2001.  The images here are of the title page and of page 75 where Joseph's name and hometown area is shown in the left column, 36th name down from the top.  From the previous page 74, the names are a continuation of the "Matelots" (sailors) aboard the French ship, "La Blanche".

1894 Letter from Stephen Sippy  (1809-1896)

This letter was written to his son, Amos Sippy.  A great-granddaughter of Joseph Tremeau/Sippy (probably Mary Margaret Bowlby, daughter of William Bowlby and Phoebe Sippy)  hand-copied the following letter from the original.  She pens her own comments on the letter on page #3.   This copy, itself, did not copy well, and much of it is difficult or impossible to read, so I have typed my own transcript which follows these 3 pages.

1893 Letter Written by Dr. Benjamin F. Sippy

This listing on the letterhead of Dr. Benjamin F. Sippy was found among the papers belonging to the doctor's 2nd cousin, Olive (Sippy) McQuinney, a great granddaughter of Joseph (Tremau) Sippy and Lucretia Johnson.  Dr. Sippy closed his medical practice when his first wife became terminally ill so he could care for her.  During that period he gathered family information by writing to other Sippy descendants who were scattered around the country.  He passed this information along to his great grand-daughter, Judy (Naylor) Somers who incorporated it in her book, "Joseph Sippy, the Frenchman".
